Behar: ‘A lot’ of Homeschooled Kids Are ‘Demented’

“The View” co-host Joy Behar is well on her way to unhinged, if not already there. Earlier today, NB’s Justin McCarthy noted that Behar, in mentioning GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, said that “we all know that the woman is an airhead.” Michelle Malkin noted this evening that Behar also took an uncalled-for cheap shot at those who are involved in an important and growing alternative not only to the public schools, but also to traditional brick-and-mortar classroom education (video

We have pre-registered last November 6 and the we are excited to be a part of this conference. We are basically sold out to the School of Tomorrow curriculum and we are already inclined to go for this when we formally start homeschooling our son next year. Somehow I just really need to look into this conference and be able to defend why SOT is still better. Having said that, I will still join the group with an open mind. Knowing in my heart that this group probably just about has the same agen

How do we combat the prevailing fear?

I’ve received several alerts since the Presidential campaign began warning that homeschooling was going to end as we know it if the country voted a certain way. It seems that I’ve read similar alerts during and after many elections over the years. There has also been a great deal in the news that could scare the hardiest of souls. For two years we’ve heard the fear mongering from many different political campaigns.

In a discussion about Obama and the education of their two daughters, Joy Behar of The View slams homeschoolers and calls all lot of them “demented when they’re homeschooled” and that “they learn to be scared of other children.” The discussion begins at the 5:45 min. mark. Behar’s remarks are at the 7:08 min. mark. Considering the comments come from Behar, I think “demented” might

Education is being enlarged. More choices, more options. F2F, augmented, blended, online learning, etc are enlarging options for learners and educators to deal with individual, personal needs and contexts. Much like content is fragemented from large holding structures (newspapers, books, courses), the entire education system itself is breaking into muliple specialized choices. For example - homeschooling goes mainstream: “Home education is now being done by so many different kinds of people for

My daughter, the Wampanoag

One of my favorite things about homeschooling is definitely that I get to learn or re-learn right alongside my children. This year, our homeschool group is putting together a Thanksgiving show. In which, my daughter plays the part of a Wampanoag woman. She has long been fascinated by Native American culture, and had a really good time learning more about this specific Native People group, as did I. I whipped up her garb yesterday in between doing the mommy-with-sick-child thing throughout the

Needless to say, after the “shut up” incident and my son still coming home from 7th grade in tears, Roger and I decided that public school was no longer the place for our son. We un-enrolled him today. Unfortunately, we do not have the money for a spendy curriculum. However, I am quite resourceful and have found many places around my town where I can find curriculum at low, low prices. Not to

Tami put together the Carnival of Homeschooling this week and sent me a nice note to say that The Old Schoolhouse was offering a subscription for a year since I’d participated. Pretty cool.
